The exhibition. The Officina Fotografica is a multifunctional centre, tucked away in one of the many, delightful inner courtyards of old Milan. At the centre you can learn photography and printing and consult the books there, while exhibitions are held on the latest trends in contemporary photography. At present the work of a young photographer, Alberto Magrin, can be seen in his exhibition “Gesù ti ama” (Jesus Loves You). The title isn’t supposed to make you think of pictures from a vestry, instead Magrin takes an original and we could say ironic approach to reflect on the reality that surrounds us. Religion is interpreted by isolating or working on particular shots taken by the photographer while travelling. A climbing plant clinging to a lamp post becomes the shape of Christ on the Cross, and the print of a cloud “scoured” by a brillo pad becomes the face of the work Notre-Dame des Nuages. The new works of Alberto Magrin take life from the “theory of coincidences” and from a mediation between the sky and earth, between the dreamlike and the everyday. Like a modern shaman, the artist receives messages and conveys them to us as photographed images that are accessible to everyone. The lyricism which sets his work apart is the result of an ironic play on coincidences, a destiny which has been mapped out, that only the sensitivity of the artist can bring to life before us. The exhibition displays new works that have evolved from experiencing and recreating life, characterised by symbolic interpretation as if the artist has wished to reinterpret a divine message. The theory of coincidences: “Coincidence” decides man’s fate, balanced and in harmony with the universe. Thus coincidence becomes the purest law that can exist in the world and beyond the world it represents the indissoluble bond between the relative and the absolute, as well as the birth of all forms of life and of love. It is a link between reality and the imagination, between desire and dreams, between the body and the spirit, between life and death. Hence the importance of this moment should form the basis of all scientific, artistic, economic, political and religious laws as it can determine the existence and subsistence of human beings on Earth, as on any other planet. As these laws, and their establishment are inseparable from each other, this theory is the link which could improve the quest, growth and evolution of mankind.
